Delhi Issues Traffic Advisories for Protests and Supreme Court March
Delhi police warned that traffic could be redirected at 30 places because of planned protests and a march toward the Supreme Court.
Different advisories refer to October 11 or October 12, so the date depends on which day's notice they describe.
The affected areas include busy parts of New Delhi and Central Delhi.
Protesters and opposition leaders said they were raising concerns about election processes and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
Police said traffic arrangements could change as conditions developed.
People were asked to avoid trips they did not need to make and leave extra time for important journeys.
Reports said many Metro stations had been temporarily closed during security preparations.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation said the gates and interchange facilities had reopened.
Northern Railway said trains would run normally on October 11.
A court hearing was also scheduled about a legal challenge to restrictions on Metro and train services.
Delhi Traffic Police announced possible diversions at 30 locations across New Delhi and Central Delhi, beginning at 6 a.m. on October 11 or October 12 depending on the advisory.
The advisories link the planned protests and march to opposition demands concerning Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and alleged electoral-roll irregularities.
Commuters were advised to avoid non-essential travel, allow extra time for airport, railway station and ISBT journeys, and follow official traffic updates.
Reports say 45 Metro stations were closed for about 25 hours during security arrangements for the CJP protest; DMRC said all gates and interchange facilities reopened Saturday.
Northern Railway said services would run normally on October 11; a Supreme Court hearing was scheduled over a plea concerning Metro and train restrictions.
