Congress Wins Datia Bypoll, Celebrates with Toffees
In a recent election in the town of Datia, the Congress party’s candidate, Ghanshyam Singh, won the seat by a little over six thousand votes.
This is the second time the Congress has won this seat after the previous MLA was jailed.
After the results were announced, workers from the Congress party celebrated in the city of Bhopal by handing out sweet toffees called Melody and lighting crackers.
The BJP candidate, Ashutosh Tiwari, said the party would look into why they lost.
Party leaders said the win shows how popular Rahul Gandhi’s ideas are among voters.
Congress candidate Ghanshyam Singh won the Datia Assembly bypoll, defeating BJP’s Ashutosh Tiwari by 6,056 votes.
The victory marked the second consecutive win for Congress in the seat, which had become vacant after former MLA Rajendra Bharti’s conviction.
Congress workers celebrated the result in Bhopal, distributing Melody toffees and bursting crackers while chanting slogans.
The BJP lost at polling booth 121, where former Home Minister Narottam Mishra voted, with Congress receiving 291 votes to BJP’s 264.
