Coupang to Pay $1.18 Billion for Data Leak
Coupang, a big online shopping company in South Korea, had a problem where a lot of people's information was leaked.
To make it up to their customers, they decided to give everyone who was affected a voucher worth 50,000 won.
That's a lot of money, about 1.69 trillion won in total.
The boss of Coupang, Kim Bom, said he was sorry, but he won't be going to a meeting with lawmakers to talk about it.
Some people are upset because the vouchers can only be used on Coupang's own services, which aren't very popular.
Lawmakers and consumer groups think this isn't a good way to make things right.
Coupang announced a 1.69 trillion won ($1.18 billion) compensation deal for 33.7 million affected accounts due to a data leak.
Customers will receive 50,000 won vouchers usable only on Coupang's services.
Founder Kim Bom issued a public apology but declined to attend parliamentary hearings.
Criticism mounted over the use of vouchers tied to less popular services.
Parliamentary hearings on Coupang's data breach are scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday.
