Supreme Court Agrees to Hear Plea Over Woman’s Deportation

Supreme Court Agrees to Hear Plea Over Woman’s Deportation

The Supreme Court will examine a complaint about a woman who was taken from India to Bangladesh.

Her son says she is an Indian resident from West Bengal, not an illegal Bangladeshi national.

He says officials detained her in Mumbai and did not give her a proper chance to prove her identity.

He also says she was held for more than 100 hours without being brought before a magistrate.

The petition claims she was then handed to the Border Security Force and pushed across the border.

The court has asked the central government to respond within four weeks.

The son wants the woman brought back to India.

He is also asking the court to examine whether current deportation rules violate constitutional protections.
