India Signs ₹810.79 Crore Deal For 160 SAT-SAAW Weapons
India has ordered 160 guided weapons for its Air Force.
The contract is worth ₹810.79 crore.
The weapons are called Satellite Smart Anti-Airfield Weapons, or SAT-SAAW.
They are designed to attack airfield facilities such as runways, bunkers and hangars.
They can be launched by Jaguar, Hawk and Su-30MKI aircraft.
The weapons glide using the aircraft’s momentum instead of an onboard rocket or jet motor.
Satellite navigation helps guide them accurately.
The weapons were developed in India and are expected to be delivered in 2027–2028 and 2028–2029.
The Ministry of Defence signed an ₹810.79 crore contract with Bharat Dynamics Limited for 160 SAT-SAAW weapons and associated equipment.
The weapons will be supplied to the Indian Air Force under the Buy Indian-Indigenously Designed, Developed and Manufactured category.
Designed and developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation, SAT-SAAW will contain 60% indigenous content.
The glide bombs can be launched from Jaguar, Hawk and Su-30MKI aircraft to strike enemy airfields from long stand-off ranges.
Deliveries are scheduled for 2027–2028 and 2028–2029, with indigenous subsystems including an initial measurement unit, long impact delay fuse and twin store carrier.
