Mumbai Launches AI-Based Air Quality Monitor
Mumbai is getting a new system called MANAS to check the air quality in different parts of the city.
This system uses many small sensors and artificial intelligence to give very detailed information about pollution levels in specific areas.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and IIT Kanpur are working together to set up this system.
It will help the city understand where the air is most polluted and take actions to improve it.
The system is expected to be ready for everyone to use by mid 2026.
MANAS is an AI-based air quality monitoring platform developed by BMC and IIT Kanpur.
The system will use 75 sensors to provide hyperlocal, real-time air quality data.
MANAS aims to detect pollution patterns, identify sources, and suggest targeted mitigation measures.
The platform will be owned and maintained by BMC, offering independent access to detailed AQI insights.
The system is expected to be operational by mid 2026 after calibration and public rollout.
