Birbhum raid: 28.5 crore cash, 15kg gold seized from Tulu Mondal’s network
Police in the Birbhum district of West Bengal raided a house and found a huge amount of cash and gold.
The gold was worth about 22 crore rupees and was said to have come from places like Dubai and Switzerland.
The people who owned the house said the money belonged to a man named Tulu Mondal, who is accused of running a big sand and stone business that stole money from the government.
Some politicians say the police were working with the people who stole the money, while the police say they are just doing their job.
Tulu Mondal was arrested and is being held while the police look for more people who might have helped him.
Police seized ₹28.5 crore in cash and 15 kg of gold from Minar Mondal’s house in Birbhum district.
The gold, valued at about ₹22 crore, is said to have been bought in Dubai, Switzerland and other countries and wrapped in black tape.
Minar claimed the assets belonged to Tulu Mondal and that he was only a custodian; Tulu has been investigated for illegal mining and revenue diversion since 2013.
Trinamool Congress leaders accuse the syndicate of funneling money to the party and police collusion, while police deny any wrongdoing.
Tulu Mondal was arrested on Thursday and is being held in police custody as investigators search for the “big fish” who may have profited from the syndicate’s wealth.
