Uttarakhand to See First Train Run in 2026, UCC Model Gains Traction
Imagine a train running through the beautiful hills of Uttarakhand!
This is going to happen soon, starting in October 2026.
A big part of the work, like building tunnels, is done.
The first trains will travel on a short part of the track at first.
Also, Uttarakhand has created a special set of rules called the Uniform Civil Code.
Other states, like Gujarat and those in the Northeast, are looking at it to see if they can use it too.
This is all part of making it easier to travel and improve things in the area.
Uttarakhand is set to witness its first train run in the hills in October 2026 as part of the Rishikesh-Karnprayag rail link project.
Over 26 kilometers of tunnel construction has been completed.
The initial train service will cover a 30-35 km stretch, about a fourth of the total project length.
Uttarakhand's Uniform Civil Code (UCC) is being considered as a model by other states, including Gujarat and those in the Northeast.
The project involves a 26.6-kilometer tunnel breakthrough, a significant step for rail connectivity in the Himalayan region.
