Kerala Airport Halts Flights for Centuries-Old Religious Procession

Kerala Airport Halts Flights for Centuries-Old Religious Procession

Imagine a very old and special parade that needs to cross the path where airplanes take off and land.

Because this parade is so important and has been happening for hundreds of years, the airport in Thiruvananthapuram, India, stops all flights for a few hours.

This happens twice a year.

An important person from the old royal family, dressed up, leads the parade with elephants, police, and musicians.

They walk across the runway to a beach for a religious ceremony.

After the ceremony and the parade returns, the airport cleans the runway and then lets the planes fly again.

This special tradition shows how sometimes old customs are still honored in modern places like airports.
