German Far-Right Lawmaker Calls for US-German Alliance
A German politician from a far-right party called for a partnership between the U.S. and Germany at a special event in New York.
He said this partnership would help both countries stand up for their values.
Some people in Europe are worried because the U.S. government seems to support far-right parties in Europe.
The German politician also invited U.S. officials to an event in Germany next year.
Other German politicians say the far-right party is not democratic and should not be worked with.
The U.S. government has not commented yet.
Markus Frohnmaier, a senior German far-right lawmaker, called for a U.S.-German nationalist alliance at a MAGA gala.
The event was hosted by the New York Young Republican Club and attended by 20 AfD lawmakers.
The U.S. security strategy document praises Europe’s patriotic parties and criticizes Europe’s current trajectory.
Frohnmaier met with U.S. Under Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy Sarah Rogers before the gala.
The AfD was classified as a right-wing extremist organization by Germany’s domestic intelligence agency.
