Supreme Court Declares 'Zudpi' Jungles as Forest Land
Imagine the Supreme Court is like a super-powered referee.
They said that certain forests in six parts of Maharashtra are officially 'forest land.'
However, if people were already using some of this land for homes, farms, or important buildings before 1996, they can keep it.
But, if the land was given away for businesses after 1980, it has to be taken back.
The government has to plant new trees somewhere else to make up for any forests that are lost.
Also, special teams will be set up to make sure nobody is illegally using the forest land in the next two years.
Supreme Court ruled 'zudpi' jungles in 6 Vidarbha districts are forest land.
Residential, agricultural, and public utility land use prior to Dec 1996 is exempt.
Commercial land allotments after Oct 25, 1980, are considered encroachment.
Maharashtra government must seek approval to remove land from 'List of Forest Areas'.
Special task forces will remove encroachments within two years.
