Indian Railways Launches Online Excess Luggage Booking With Ticket Reservations
Indian Railways now lets you book extra luggage online when you buy your train ticket.
You only need a confirmed ticket and can do it all on the IRCTC website.
The service works for most classes except AC 3-Tier and Chair Car.
You pay a little extra if you go over the free weight limit, and the luggage must fit within size limits.
After booking, you hand the bag to the station staff and can track it online.
This makes travel easier and faster.
Online excess luggage booking now available for passengers with confirmed tickets.
Service integrates with IRCTC ticket reservation, eliminating separate parcel office visits.
Eligible classes: AC First, AC 2‑Tier, First, Sleeper, Second; AC 3‑Tier and Chair Car not eligible.
Free luggage allowance varies by class; excess charges 1.5× normal rate, minimum Rs 30.
Size limits: 100×60×25 cm for most classes; 55×45×22.5 cm for AC 3‑Tier/Chair Car.
