Unresolved Naga issue biggest obstacle to peace: Jamir
A group of elders in Nagaland, including a former chief minister named S C Jamir, had a meeting to talk about peace in their state.
They said that the main problem is that a political issue involving the Naga people has not been fully solved, even though the Indian government has signed agreements with different Naga groups.
Jamir said that these agreements need to be put into action quickly so that the people can live in peace.
He also mentioned that some people might not want peace because they benefit from the current situation.
The elders agreed that the Naga people need to work together to solve this problem and that all groups should come to an agreement.
The unresolved Naga political issue is the biggest obstacle to lasting peace in Nagaland, according to former Chief Minister S C Jamir.
A consultative meeting of Nagaland elders was held to discuss the implementation of political agreements signed between the Government of India and Naga groups.
Two agreements, the Framework Agreement (2015) and the Agreed Position (2017), are seen as the foundation for lasting peace in Nagaland.
Jamir alleged that certain vested interests are creating hurdles in reaching a peaceful conclusion.
Efforts will be made to build political will in New Delhi and Nagaland for the implementation of the agreements, and all factions must be brought to the table for a final settlement.
