AP government aims for dumping yard-free state, says minister

Every day, people in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh throw away about 7,000 tonnes of trash.

A lot of old trash was also left sitting in big dumps for years.

The state government wants to clean it all up and make Andhra Pradesh free of trash dumps.

A minister named P Narayana visited the city of Rajamahendravaram to check how trash is being cleaned there.

He said the government has already processed nearly 85 lakh tonnes of old trash.

About 156 lakh more tonnes buried underground are being worked on, with a goal to finish by October 2.

The processed trash can be turned into fuel for cement factories.

The government is also building special plants that burn processed waste to make electricity.

More than 100 processing plants are being set up across the state.

Officials also asked people not to throw trash into drains, because that blocks them.
