US Prosecutor Affirms Justice Department's Decision to Drop Adani Case
A top U.S. prosecutor said he couldn't argue with the decision to drop a case against a very rich man from India named Gautam Adani.
The case was about giving bribes to build a big solar power plant.
The prosecutor said he wasn't the one who made the decision to drop the case.
The man accused, Adani, says he didn't do anything wrong.
He even offered to invest a lot of money in the U.S. to try and settle the case.
The judge wanted to know why the case was dropped, but the prosecutor said he wasn't the one who decided that.
U.S. Attorney Joseph Nocella Jr. affirmed the Justice Department's decision to drop the case against Gautam Adani.
Nocella stated he was not the decision-maker and had no basis to dispute the reasons given by Trent McCotter.
Adani is accused of paying $265 million in bribes to Indian officials for a solar power plant project.
Adani's net worth is $88.7 billion, and he offered to invest $10 billion in the U.S. to resolve the case.
Adani and his company agreed to pay $18 million and $275 million respectively to settle related SEC and Treasury Department probes.
