ReNew Secures $477 Million for Clean Energy Project in Andhra Pradesh
A company called ReNew is building a big solar and wind power project in India that also has a large battery to store energy.
They received a lot of money, $477 million in total, from a bank called the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to help build it.
Part of the money comes directly from ADB, and the bank is helping ReNew get the rest from other money lenders.
This project will help make sure there's enough power when people need it most, like in the evenings, and will use clean energy from the sun and wind.
It's like having a solar panel and a wind turbine, plus a giant power bank, to provide electricity reliably.
This is important for India to use less fossil fuels and more clean energy.
ReNew has done similar big projects before, showing they are good at building these kinds of clean energy farms.
ReNew Energy Global secured a $477 million financial package from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for a clean energy project in Andhra Pradesh.
The project includes 837 MWp of wind and solar capacity combined with a 415 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS).
ADB provided $331 million directly, with the remaining $146 million to be arranged through other lenders.
The project aims to deliver 300 MW of peak power, enhance grid reliability, and accelerate India's transition to low-carbon energy.
This marks ADB's first financing for a peak power renewable energy project, expected to generate approximately 1,641 GWh of clean energy annually.

Project Scope and Financing
ReNew Energy Global
ReNew is developing a 837 MWp wind and solar capacity project with a 415 MWh battery storage system, integrating peak power delivery with base load supply to enhance grid reliability. The company secured $331 million from ADB, with ADB arranging the remaining $146 million from other lenders.
Asian Development Bank (ADB)
ADB is financing the project with $331 million, including local currency financing and funds from LEAP 2, to support the development of large-scale clean energy projects in Andhra Pradesh. This is the first peak power renewable energy project financed by ADB, aiming to generate approximately 1,641 GWh of clean energy annually.
Significance of Hybrid Renewable Energy
ReNew Energy Global
The project, which builds on a previous $2.5 billion investment for a 2.8 GW hybrid complex, demonstrates that renewable energy can be delivered competitively at grid scale to meet peak power demand. The integration of wind, solar, and battery storage sets a blueprint for firm, dispatchable clean energy.
Asian Development Bank (ADB)
Combining battery storage with wind-solar hybrid systems is a game-changer for unlocking dependable clean power, stabilizing the grid, and advancing India's renewable energy sector. This financing accelerates India's transition to a low-carbon energy future.
