Nayanthara Faces Box Office Setbacks But Retains Star Support
Nayanthara has had a difficult period at the box office.
Two of her recent films, Toxic and Hi, did not perform as expected.
In Toxic, she played Yash’s sister.
Hi was made for about Rs 20 crore but earned less than Rs 15 crore in theaters.
Some of her other recent films also had disappointing theatrical results.
Her streaming movie Test received mostly negative reactions.
However, she has also appeared in successful films such as Jawan and Mana Shankara Vara Prasad Garu.
R Madhavan said that a star should not be judged only by box-office numbers.
Producer Dil Raju said Nayanthara could return strongly with Monster.
Nayanthara’s two late-August releases, Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups and Hi, failed to make the expected impact.
Toxic, a reported Rs 500-crore production, featured Nayanthara as Yash’s sister and reportedly underperformed.
Hi, made on a reported Rs 20 crore budget, ended its theatrical run with a gross below Rs 15 crore.
Recent disappointments also include Annapoorani, Iraivan, Connect, Patriot, Nizhal and the streaming film Test.
R Madhavan and producer Dil Raju argued that setbacks do not erase Nayanthara’s stardom or future potential.
