India's Top Firms Show Governance Progress, But Gaps Remain
Imagine the top 100 companies in India are like big teams.
A report card shows they're doing some things well, like having board meetings.
But there are also some problems.
Not all board members show up to meetings.
Very few women are in charge.
The people in charge are also getting older.
Some companies also don't have enough independent people making decisions.
This means these companies need to improve to make better decisions and represent more people.
Companies increased board meetings, exceeding the minimum requirement.
Attendance rates of directors showed a slight decrease.
Women are underrepresented in leadership positions.
Boards are aging, with the average age of independent directors at 63.62.
Several companies lack the required number of independent directors, especially in the public sector.
