Census 2027: Centre clears 40 questions covering caste and Aadhaar
The government of India is getting ready for a very big count of all the people in the country.
This count is called the Census and it will happen in 2027.
Officials will visit homes and ask people 40 questions.
Some questions are easy, like your name, age, and birthday.
Other questions ask about your family, religion, and the community you belong to.
For the first time, people will also be asked about their caste.
People will be asked about school, work, and the places where they used to live.
Grown-ups may be asked about their identity cards, like the Aadhaar card and passport.
Women will be asked some questions about their children.
The government will collect all this information using a Household Schedule during the population enumeration phase.
The Union Home Ministry notified 40 questions for the Census 2027 Household Schedule on Friday, August 14.
The questionnaire includes first-time comprehensive caste enumeration, with questions on Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, and caste.
Questions cover basic demographics, education, digital literacy, employment, occupation, industry, and migration history.
Married, widowed, divorced, or separated women will be asked about children ever born and surviving; currently married women about births in the last year.
Respondents will be asked about identity documents including Aadhaar, voter ID, passport, and driving licence, plus bank accounts, mobile numbers, and Covid-19 vaccination place.

- The Union Home Ministry; Registrar General of India Mrityunjay Kumar Narayan, who issued the order; and Census officers who will ask the questions within their assigned local areas.
