Chirala Demands Direct Benefits for Handloom Weavers
A group that helps handloom weavers in India sent a letter to the Prime Minister.
They want the government to give money and help straight to the weavers, not through fake cooperatives.
The group says many weavers are poor and that most of them are women.
They want taxes on loom materials to be waived, a big amount of money to be given to the industry, and a big discount on yarn.
They also want life insurance for weavers over 45.
The letter says these steps will help keep weavers safe and give them a better life.
ABPPS wrote to the Prime Minister demanding direct welfare for handloom weavers.
President Bandaru Jwala Narasimham claims 90% of handloom cooperatives are fake and corrupt.
India has 3.145 million handloom households, 72% women, 66.3% earn under Rs 5,000/month.
Demands include tax waivers on raw materials, Rs 25,000 crore allocation, 75% yarn subsidy, and Rs 2.5 lakh life insurance for weavers 45+.
The letter calls for immediate measures to protect weavers' livelihoods.
