Kolkata Metro Construction Faces Delay at Chingrighata Crossing
Imagine building a new train track over a busy road.
The metro is trying to build a new line in Kolkata that will eventually go all the way to the airport.
However, a small part of the track, just 366 meters long, is stuck at a busy intersection called Chingrighata.
This is because the metro needs special permission from the police to stop some traffic for a short time so they can put the final pieces of the track in place.
They asked for this permission a long time ago, and it's causing a big delay.
The metro officials are hopeful they will get the permission next week.
Once they get it, they can finish this last bit of construction, and trains will be able to run all the way to the airport.
This will make it much easier for people to travel between the southern parts of the city and the airport, as well as the busy office areas.
Construction of a 366-meter viaduct section for the New Garia-Kolkata Airport Metro at Chingrighata crossing remains stalled.
The delay is due to the Metro Railway not yet receiving a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Kolkata Police.
Metro officials expect the NOC to be issued next week, with girder launching for the stalled section anticipated in November.
The project's completion is crucial for extending metro services from Beleghata towards the airport, connecting South Kolkata with IT hubs and Dum Dum Airport.
The state government is expected to manage traffic and provide alternative routes during the construction phase once clearance is granted.
