NMC Approves 587 Additional PG Medical Seats for 2025-26
The National Medical Commission (NMC) has approved 587 more seats for postgraduate medical studies for the year 2025-26.
This decision came after some medical colleges asked for more seats because they were not happy with earlier decisions by the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB).
The NMC said these new seats are ready to be used for admissions, and they will send the official permission letters soon.
The extra seats are in many different medical fields and are in colleges from many states across India.
The NMC told everyone involved in the admission process to start using these new seats right away and not to wait for the official permission letters.
Meanwhile, the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) is expected to announce the NEET PG 2025 counselling schedule soon.
The NMC approved 587 additional PG medical seats for the academic year 2025-26 following appeals by medical colleges.
The approval was announced in a public notice issued on December 31, 2025, after committee meetings on December 22 and 23, 2025.
The additional seats cover various disciplines and are distributed across multiple states and Union Territories.
The NMC instructed counselling authorities to proceed with admissions using the approved list without waiting for Letters of Permission (LoPs).
The notice was circulated to state and Union Territory medical education departments, the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC), and all state counselling authorities.
