CPI(M) Leaders Booked Over Alleged Threats Against Kerala Police

Police in Thiruvananthapuram filed a case against MLA V Joy and former minister Kadakampally Surendran.

The case concerns speeches made during a Communist Party of India (Marxist), or CPI(M), protest.

About 200 party workers reportedly joined the march.

The protesters wanted two Cantonment police officers removed.

Police said the speeches encouraged violence and included threats against the officers.

The protest came after a clash between student and youth groups at Kerala University.

Police used a lathicharge during that earlier incident.

The case includes charges related to provoking riots and criminal intimidation.
