Indian Army Achieves 91% Ammunition Indigenisation
The Indian Army has made a big step towards making its own ammunition.
They now make 91% of the different types of bullets, rockets, and missiles they use.
This means they don't have to rely so much on other countries for these supplies.
The government is working with companies like Munitions India Ltd and Solar Industries to make this happen.
They are also making special smart ammunition that can hit targets more precisely.
The Army is getting ready for future wars and is even exporting some of their ammunition to other countries like the United States and Europe.
Indian Army has indigenised 159 of 175 ammunition variants, achieving 91% self-sufficiency.
MoD has involved defence PSUs and private players to accelerate indigenous production.
Four to seven types of smart munitions, including APFSDS and 84 mm ammunition, are being produced in-house.
Technology transfer for Russian and Swedish ammunition has been received, and production facilities are being set up.
Army is procuring ammunition worth ₹6,000 crore to maintain operational readiness and firepower.
