Kalingarayan Anicut in Erode to Undergo ₹1.34 Crore Restoration
Imagine a really old water system called the Kalingarayan Anicut, which is like a dam, but also a way to send water to farms.
It's been around for over 700 years!
Now, the government is going to spend money to fix it up.
They'll make sure the dam is working well, and also build a museum to teach people about its history.
There will also be new bathrooms, parking, and other amenities.
This project aims to help farmers and also make it a nice place to visit.
The goal is to keep this important piece of history and infrastructure working for many years to come.
The Kalingarayan Anicut, a 742-year-old irrigation structure, is set for a ₹1.34 crore restoration.
The project includes renovating the anicut, setting up a museum, and developing a tourist park.
The anicut, built by Kalingarayan Gounder, irrigates 15,743 acres of land via a 91.10 km canal.
The Water Resources Department (WRD) is overseeing the project, with tenders opening on June 10.
The structure was declared a 'World Heritage Irrigation Structure' in 2021 by ICID.
