IMD issues orange alert for Mumbai

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Mumbai, predicting heavy to extremely heavy rains this week.

The alert was upgraded from yellow to orange due to the possibility of moderate to intense rainfall over a short period.

Residents are concerned about potential flooding, while the government assures preparedness with disaster management teams.

The affected areas include Mumbai, Thane, and Palghar, with rains expected to intensify starting Tuesday, July 21.

The BMC has advised residents to boil and filter drinking water due to muddy water entering the riverbed.

Several areas received more than 150 mm of rainfall in a 24-hour period, bringing relief from the humidity.

The maximum and minimum temperatures will be around 28°C and 24°C.
