US Approves Samsung, SK Hynix Chip Tool Exports to China
The US government has given permission to Samsung and SK Hynix, two big South Korean companies, to send chip-making tools to their factories in China for the year 2026.
This is a temporary solution because the US is trying to stop China from getting advanced technology.
Normally, these companies didn't need special permission to send these tools, but now they will.
The US is also allowing the sale of some advanced AI chips to China but will charge a fee.
This is all part of the US trying to control how much technology China can get.
The US government approved an annual license for Samsung and SK Hynix to export chipmaking tools to China for 2026.
This approval is a temporary relief and comes after the US revoked previous license waivers for technology firms.
Samsung and SK Hynix will need export licenses for any shipments of American chipmaking tools to their Chinese facilities after 31 December.
The US aims to limit China's access to advanced American technology by re-examining export controls.
The US also approved the sale of Nvidia's second-most advanced AI chip to China with a 25% fee.
