BMC Renames Swachh Mumbai Abhiyan as Brihanmumbai Swachhta Seva Yojana

The city government of Mumbai, called the BMC, takes care of keeping the city clean.

It runs a program that picks up trash from people's homes.

The program used to be called 'Swachh Mumbai Abhiyan'.

Now the BMC has given it a new name: 'Brihanmumbai Swachhta Seva Yojana'.

The people who collect trash and clean streets get paid money every month.

The BMC wants to raise their pay from Rs 6,000 to Rs 11,000 per month.

The program also charges each household a small fee for trash pickup.

That fee may double from Rs 20 to Rs 40 every month.

Many teams, 980 in total, will help collect garbage and clean drains.

The new plan was approved at a meeting at the BMC headquarters in Mumbai on Tuesday evening.
