Karnataka HC Allows Bengaluru Garbage Tender, Orders Tech Platform for Waste Management
Imagine Bengaluru needs someone to pick up all its trash.
The city government created a plan, called a tender, to hire companies for this job.
Some companies that usually do this job were unhappy with the new plan.
They told the big court, the Karnataka High Court, that the plan wasn't fair to them, mentioning things like fewer job openings and higher costs.
The court listened to them but decided the city government could still move forward with the plan.
However, the court also said that the city needs a new, smart computer system to help manage all the trash better.
To give the companies more time to get ready, the court pushed back the deadline for them to apply.
Karnataka High Court permitted the state to proceed with the Bengaluru garbage tender floated in July.
The court dismissed challenges from contractors regarding the tender's terms.
A unified, technology-based system for solid waste management in Bengaluru was ordered by the court.
The tender bid deadline was extended to November 10 to allow contractors to form consortiums.
Contractors had argued the new tender, with fewer packages and increased costs, damaged their interests.
