Walmart’s Push to Replace Human Work With Robots
Walmart wants to use more machines to help move products through its stores.
The company says machines could help handle more items, more quickly and accurately.
Walmart hopes this will mean fewer empty spots on store shelves and lower costs.
In its plan, trucks would bring stores the goods they need at the right time.
The goods would be arranged so workers can take them to one aisle.
They could then unload items in the order they belong on shelves.
Walmart says this could make workers’ schedules easier to plan.
The article title describes the effort as a multibillion-dollar struggle.
Walmart executives say automation could help process more inventory faster and more precisely.
The company expects automation to reduce out-of-stock goods and lower costs.
Executives envision trucks arriving with pallets of goods needed by stores at that time.
Pallets would be organized to let workers move them to one aisle and unload goods in stocking order.
Walmart says the approach could make store workers’ schedules more precise and predictable.
