EC Deletes 84,000 Voters for 'Other' Reasons

The Election Commission of India has deleted over 84,000 voters in three states and one union territory for 'other' reasons.

This is a new category introduced in the third phase of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

The 'other' category includes voters who refused to submit or sign their enumeration forms.

The deletions are part of a larger effort to update the electoral rolls, with a total of 32.08 lakh names being removed.

The EC says voters can be added back during the claims and objections period.

Critics question the transparency of the 'other' category, while the EC defends it as necessary for certain cases.
