Ugandan Opposition Leader Besigye Unconscious in ICU
Kizza Besigye, a 70‑year‑old Ugandan politician, fell down in a courtroom while being tried for treason.
He is now in a hospital’s intensive‑care unit and cannot speak or react.
His wife, Winnie Byanyima, posted on social media that he is unconscious.
Besigye has been held in jail since November 2024 after being brought back from Kenya.
Some people say the charges are a way to silence political opponents, but the government has not commented.
Kizza Besigye, 70, collapsed in a Kampala court during a treason trial.
He is unconscious, unresponsive, and in intensive care at Mulago National Referral Hospital.
Besigye has been detained since November 2024 after repatriation from Kenya.
His lawyers and supporters claim the treason charges are politically motivated.
Government spokesperson Alan Kasujja did not respond to Reuters' request for comment.
