India Returns to Venice Biennale With a Search for Home

India Returns to Venice Biennale With a Search for Home

India has opened a special art exhibition at the Venice Biennale, a very important international art event.

The exhibition is about what home means when people move, lose places or remember them.

Five artists made works using materials such as bamboo, thread, paper, clay and soil.

One artwork recreates a demolished house from Delhi using embroidery.

Another looks like a large bamboo building, while others show a garden, Ladakhi homes and cracked earth.

Many visitors and critics have praised the pavilion for its beauty and careful workmanship.

Some critics think the exhibition is not as politically bold as India’s 2011 presentation.

India wants to keep participating and has already confirmed that it will return in 2028.

The larger question is whether India can build a permanent and consistent home for its art in Venice.
