Delhi Court Sentences Life for Ankit Sharma’s Murder
Ankit Sharma was a young officer who was killed during riots in Delhi in 2020.
His family fought in court for six years to get justice.
A Delhi court said the people who killed him should get life in prison.
The family feels some relief but also sadness.
The people who killed him will try to appeal the decision in a higher court.
Former AAP councillor Tahir Hussain and four others were sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of Intelligence Bureau officer Ankit Sharma during the 2020 Northeast Delhi riots.
The verdict was delivered by a Delhi court on 31 July 2026 after a six‑year legal battle by Sharma’s family.
Ankur Sharma, Ankit’s brother, said the sentence brought relief but also a sense of emptiness, and that the fight for justice is not over.
The family had sought the death penalty, arguing the crime was “rarest of rare,” but the court rejected that plea and imposed life imprisonment.
Tahir Hussain announced he would challenge the verdict in the High Court, claiming justice would still be served.
