NHRC Issues Notice Over VIT Students' Protest
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has sent notices to important officials in Madhya Pradesh.
This is because students at VIT University in Sehore are very upset.
Many students got sick with jaundice, which they think is because of dirty food and water.
The students even set fire to buses and damaged the university.
The NHRC wants the officials to look into this and fix the problems.
They have to send a report back to the NHRC in two weeks.
The students also say the university is not being honest about how many people are sick.
The NHRC thinks this is a serious problem and wants to make sure the students are safe and healthy.
The NHRC issued notices to the Principal Secretary (Higher Education), PS (Food Supplies), Commissioner of Police Bhopal, and Chairman of the UGC regarding complaints of human rights violations at VIT University.
Complaints allege that students contracted jaundice due to unhygienic food, unsafe drinking water, and poor sanitation on campus.
Students protested and vandalized university property, including torching buses and cars and damaging an ambulance.
The NHRC directed the officials to submit an Action Taken Report (ATR) within two weeks.
The complainant urged the NHRC to order an independent inquiry, health audits, and corrective measures to address the issues.
