Congress Leaders Arrested, Released Over Electoral Roll Dispute
Two leaders from the Congress party in North Lakhimpur were arrested and then released on bail.
This happened because of a fight during a check of the voter list for the 2026 elections.
A worker from the ruling BJP party removed a man's name from the voter list.
The Congress leaders went to check why, and there was an argument.
The BJP workers complained, and the police arrested the Congress leaders.
The Congress leaders say they were falsely accused and that the BJP worker did something wrong.
The Congress party is upset about what happened.
Two Congress leaders, Hem Chandra Baruah and Dilwar Hussain, were arrested on December 3 over a dispute during the Special Revision (SR) of electoral rolls.
The dispute began when a Booth Level Officer (BLO) deleted the name of Jahangir Alam from the electoral roll, leading to an altercation with the Congress leaders.
The leaders were arrested after a complaint by BJP workers, alleging obstruction of government officials during official duties.
The Congress leaders were released on bail on December 4 and have accused the BLO and BLA of acting improperly.
The Lakhimpur District Congress Committee has condemned the incident.
