Activists warn Delhi of groundwater contamination emergency
A group of environmental activists in Delhi wrote a letter to the city's leaders to warn them about a serious problem with the water.
They said that the water coming from underground wells is very dirty and has harmful things like chemicals and other pollutants.
This dirty water is being given to people in their homes, which is not safe.
The activists are worried that this could make people very sick and are asking the leaders to do something about it.
Earth Warriors, a Delhi-based environmental activist group, warned of a public health emergency due to groundwater contamination.
The warning was issued after the Central Ground Water Board (CGWB) Post-Monsoon 2025 report flagged serious contamination levels.
The group cited high levels of TDS, nitrates, ammonia, fluoride, and other pollutants in the groundwater.
The Delhi Jal Board's continued reliance on contaminated tube wells was highlighted as a major concern.
The activists stated that untreated and inadequately disinfected groundwater is being pumped into households, violating citizens' fundamental right to safe water.
