ESA-NASA Mars Sample Return Mission Cancelled

ESA-NASA Mars Sample Return Mission Cancelled

The European Space Agency (ESA) and NASA have decided to cancel their planned Mars Sample Return mission.

This mission was supposed to bring back samples from Mars to Earth, which would have been a first.

The cancellation is because of budget cuts by the Trump administration and changes in what space agencies think is most important.

ESA's leader, Josef Aschbacher, said that Europe alone can't afford this mission.

However, ESA and NASA are still working together on other missions.

ESA is planning to launch the Rosalin Franklin rover as part of the ExoMars mission in 2028.

This rover will dig deep into Martian soil to look for signs of life.

ESA is also preparing for a record number of space missions in 2026, with 65 missions planned, including many earth observation missions.

The budget for these missions is Euro 8.26 billion, with major contributions from countries like Germany, France, Italy, UK, Belgium, and Spain.
