Punjab and Haryana see lowest farm fires in 5 years
Punjab and Haryana have seen the lowest number of farm fires in five years.
The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) reported that Punjab had 5,114 farm fires and Haryana had 662 between September 15 and November 30, 2025.
This is a big improvement compared to previous years.
The reduction is due to various efforts like using machines to manage crop waste, strict rules, and better coordination among different groups.
These steps have helped improve air quality in the region.
The CAQM believes that with continued efforts, the air quality will keep getting better in the future.
Punjab and Haryana recorded the lowest farm fires in five years during the 2025 paddy harvesting season.
Punjab had 5,114 farm fires, a 53% drop from 2024 and a 93% drop from 2021.
Haryana had 662 farm fires, a 53% drop from 2024 and a 91% drop from 2021.
The reduction is attributed to state and district-specific action plans, use of crop residue management machines, and strict enforcement measures.
Continuous coordination among state agriculture departments, district administrations, and the CAQM facilitated timely corrective actions.
