SEBI Restricts Equity Derivatives Contract Expiry to Tuesdays or Thursdays
SEBI, the financial market regulator, is changing how certain contracts related to stocks expire.
Instead of expiring on any day of the week, these contracts, called equity derivatives, will now only expire on Tuesdays or Thursdays.
This is to help make the market safer and give different stock exchanges a chance to offer unique products.
The contracts with a longer term will expire in the last week of every month.
Also, stock exchanges have to ask for permission before changing when their contracts end.
This is to make sure that markets are stable and protect investors.
SEBI announced limitations on equity derivatives contract expirations.
Expiries will be restricted to Tuesdays or Thursdays each week.
The goal is to reduce concentration risk and offer product differentiation.
Exchanges must now seek approval to modify their derivatives contract settlement days.
The change aims to balance market stability with investor protection.
