High Migration from Rayalaseema Districts in AP
Many people from the Rayalaseema districts in Andhra Pradesh, like Kadapa, Kurnool, and Nandyal, are moving to other places for better jobs and livelihoods.
These districts have the highest number of people migrating in the state.
Most of these migrants go to cities like Vijayawada, Guntur, Nellore, Visakhapatnam, and some even move to Bengaluru and Bellary in Karnataka.
The main reasons for this migration are the lack of jobs and poor rainfall in their home districts.
Even though they move away, they still keep their voting rights in their home districts and often return for festivals or elections.
However, this migration is causing problems for updating voter records, and many people might lose their voting rights if they don't respond to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process.
Officials have also found many duplicate entries and deaths in the voter rolls, which could lead to nearly 1.5 lakh votes being removed from each district's electoral rolls.
Rayalaseema districts (Kadapa, Kurnool, Nandyal) have the highest migration rates in Andhra Pradesh.
1.99 lakh people from these districts are permanent migrants, out of 14.43 lakh total migrants in the state.
Kurnool has the highest number of migrants, with over 76,413 people moving to cities like Vijayawada and Bengaluru.
Migration is driven by lack of local employment opportunities and erratic rainfall.
Migrants retain their voting rights but face challenges in updating voter records.
