Mumbai Water Supply Boosted by Overflowing Lakes
Mumbai's water supply has gotten a big boost because several lakes, including Modak Sagar, have started overflowing due to heavy rain.
This has increased the water in the seven main lakes that supply Mumbai to almost 70% of their total capacity.
The extra water means Mumbai now has enough water for about 246 days.
However, the city is still facing a 10% water cut because the officials haven't decided to lift the restrictions yet.
The BMC is supplying less water than what the city needs every day.
Modak Sagar, a key drinking water lake for Mumbai, overflowed at 2.07 am on Thursday due to heavy rainfall.
The combined water stock in the seven lakes supplying Mumbai has reached 10.09 lakh million litres, or 69.74% of their total capacity.
Modak Sagar is the fourth lake to overflow this monsoon, following Tulsi, Vihar, and Tansa.
The current water stock is sufficient for 246 days, but Mumbai requires 14.47 lakh ML by October 1 to ensure an uninterrupted year-round supply.
The BMC continues to impose a 10% water cut despite the improvement in lake levels.
