Ghatkopar Hoarding Collapse: Police Probe Suspended IPS Officer for Misconduct
A giant sign, called a hoarding, fell down in Mumbai last year, and sadly, 17 people died.
Now, the police are looking into whether a police officer, Qaiser Khalid, who was suspended after the accident, did something wrong.
They are investigating if he was involved in any bad behavior or corruption that might have contributed to the hoarding falling.
The police arrested five other people and filed charges against them.
They found a connection between an accused person and the officer's wife's business, and are trying to figure out if money was moved improperly.
The investigation is still happening to see if the officer should face more charges.
The Mumbai police are investigating suspended IPS officer Qaiser Khalid for 'potential criminal misconduct' related to the Ghatkopar hoarding collapse.
The hoarding collapse in May 2022 resulted in 17 deaths and several injuries.
While the initial chargesheet did not name Khalid, a report was sent to the government in January 2023 recommending an ACB probe.
The crime branch has added sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act to the FIR to investigate Khalid.
An accused in the case, Arshad Khan, received money from the owner of the illegal hoarding, and Khan was a partner in a company where Khalid's wife was also a partner.
