Assam Launches SMS Alerts for Student Absenteeism
The Assam government started a new system to help students go to school more often.
If a student is absent for five days in a row, the system sends messages to the student's teacher and parents.
These messages remind them to make sure the student goes back to school.
The messages are sent in five different languages to make sure everyone can understand them.
This is to help students stay in school and learn better.
The system will keep sending messages every 5 days until the student returns to school.
Teachers get detailed messages with the student's name and class, while parents get short reminders.
Assam launched an Automated SMS Alert System to reduce student absenteeism.
The system tracks daily attendance and sends alerts after 5 consecutive days of absence.
Alerts are sent to both class teachers and parents in five official languages.
The initiative aims to improve educational continuity and mitigate dropout risk.
The system is part of the Shiksha Setu Application used by the Department of School Education, Assam.
Alerts are sent at fixed intervals on the 5th, 10th, and 15th days of continuous absence.
