Calcuttans Remove 27 Nail-Placards from Elgin Road Tree
Some people in Kolkata noticed a big tree with many signs nailed to it.
These signs were put there for advertising, but they hurt the tree.
Four people, including a man named Mudar Patherya, decided to take the signs off the tree to help it.
They said it's not right to hurt trees for business.
The city officials said they have told people not to do this, but they don't have strong rules to stop it.
The tree is important because it gives shade and shelter to people walking by.
Twenty-seven placards were nailed to a single tree on Elgin Road, Kolkata.
Four Calcuttans, including Mudar Patherya, removed the placards to highlight the harm caused by such practices.
Nailing placards into trees damages their tissues and makes them vulnerable to infections.
The Kolkata Municipal Corporation has issued notices against using trees for advertisements but lacks legal provisions to punish offenders.
The tree provides shade and shelter to pedestrians from the sun and rain.
