200 Stray Dogs Killed in Telangana
In a village in Telangana, India, about 200 stray dogs were allegedly killed by giving them poisonous injections.
This happened around a month ago, and animal rights activists say the village secretary and other leaders might be involved.
The dogs were buried in a graveyard.
The police are investigating and have already filed a case against some people for killing dogs in other villages.
This is part of a bigger problem where many stray dogs have been killed in Telangana recently.
Some people think the killings happened because village leaders promised to reduce the number of stray dogs before elections.
Animal welfare advocates say that killing dogs is not the solution and point to places like Goa and Mumbai where sterilization and vaccination have worked to control the dog population and reduce rabies.
200 stray dogs were allegedly killed in Pathipaka village, Telangana by administering poisonous injections.
Animal welfare activists filed a complaint with the police, alleging the involvement of the Gram Panchayat Secretary.
The police have included the latest complaint with an FIR already registered for the killing of around 300 stray dogs in Shayampet and Arepally villages.
Several similar incidents of stray dog killings have been reported in Telangana in January 2025, with a total of 1,100 dogs killed since December 2025.
Animal welfare advocates argue that sterilization and vaccination programs in places like Goa and Mumbai have successfully reduced dog populations and rabies cases, contrasting with the mass killings in Telangana.
