Punjab Grants Holy City Status to Amritsar
The AAP government in Punjab has decided to make Amritsar, Anandpur Sahib, and Talwandi Sabo holy cities.
This means that selling or using things like alcohol, meat, and tobacco will not be allowed in these places.
The decision was made during a special meeting of the Punjab Assembly.
Some people, like the BJP, have been against this idea in the past.
The government says this is to respect the holy status of these cities, but others think it might not be fully implemented or could cause problems.
The Amritsar Vikas Manch, a group of local people, supports the idea but wants more clarity on which parts of the city will be included.
