Thane civic body identifies 16,574 repeat voters
The Thane Municipal Corporation checked a list of voters to find people who might have voted more than once.
They looked at 83,645 names and found that 67,071 were not repeat voters.
But 16,574 people were confirmed as repeat voters.
These people will need to sign a paper saying they will only vote once.
The city officials will watch them closely to make sure they don't vote twice.
This is to keep the voting fair and honest.
Thane Municipal Corporation verified 83,645 flagged voters for potential repeat voting.
67,071 voters were confirmed as non-repeat voters and the star mark against their names will be removed.
16,574 voters were identified as genuine repeat voters and will need to submit a written undertaking to vote.
Polling officials will closely monitor these repeat voters to prevent double voting.
The verification drive aims to ensure transparency and prevent bogus voting in the January 15 civic polls.
