Ship Carrying Indians Sinks in Black Sea After Fire

A Turkish-owned ship called Royad Mammadov caught fire in the Black Sea and sank.

It was carrying corn and had Azerbaijani and Indian crew members aboard.

Romanian authorities said two people died.

Eleven crew members were rescued.

Three of those rescued were injured, and eight were not.

The ship sank about 30 nautical miles from the Romanian fishing port of Sfantu Gheorghe.

Ukraine’s president, Volodymyr Zelensky, said Russian drones struck the ship.

Romanian authorities confirmed the fire, deaths, rescue and sinking, but the article does not report an independent confirmation of what caused the fire.
