Thane Bicycle Mayor Honoured After Winning International Cycling Advocacy Award

Chirag Shah encourages people in Thane to use bicycles for some of their trips.

He was given an international award for his work promoting cycling.

Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya recently congratulated him.

Shah cycles to his nearby store and works with local authorities on cyclists’ concerns.

Thane has one cycling track and two more trial stretches.

Shah says cyclists can still be vulnerable on the roads.

He and others also teach children traffic rules and cycling hand signals.

Another Thane resident, Aniruddha Lokhande, cycles several kilometres to work.

He says more people cycling could help reduce pollution and improve health.
